The team from the Community Development program have spent the last 2 months organising:
eight ParkRun events at Kulele
one donation of school materials from Victor Evaristo and Gani Silva
two community cinema events in Hanga and Katumbela villages
multiple BiblioKwenda (mobile library) activities
one Community Christmas event at Nganja Park
We are grateful to all the volunteers who spend their time making these events possible. Without their dedication, energy and willingness to contribute to their community this program wouldn't be possible. We are also grateful to the children and young adults who participate in these events!
Community Cinema
In Hanga the community watched "The First Grader" at their first Community Cinema event, organised with help from Teacher Antonio of the local school.
In Katumbela the community watched "The Boy who Harnessed the Wind" at their first Community Cinema event, organised with help from local leaders and the young adults of Nganja.
ParkRun
Thanks to the work of our dedicated volunteers, despite heavy rains, we were able to realise 8 ParkRun events in the last two months. We had an attendance of between 30-70 participants for each event. Our final event took place on the 28th and was our 50th event of the year. For this event we had a record 128 participants!
Book Donation
Nganja Park and community received a generous donation of school materials (notebooks and pencils) from Victor Evaristo and Gani Silva. These types of donations are part of what enables our program to keep supporting the local community in Bailundo.
Mobile Library
Our Mobile Library (BiblioKwenda) was ferried around multiple locations, including the Catholic School in Hanga. A young teacher called Carlos has also begun volunteering via our community development program as a teaching assistant at the school, and helps out with the Mobile Library. Young people such as him give us hope for the future!
Community Christmas
Local Huambo businessman, Gabriel Tuyu, helped to sponsor a community Christmas event at Nganja park. He donated popcorn, juice boxes, and Santa hats to help the kids have a fantastic day. The Nganja community came together to decorate the park, and enjoy a movie - Home Alone! Something of a Christmas classic :) Following the movie there was poetry recitals and, of course, dancing and music!
