Our Programs
We are a not-for-profit organisation that implements programs in two main fields: Obstetric Fistula Prevention, Treatment, and Care, and Community Development
01
Obstetric Fistula Training
We train nurses and other health staff about the causes of obstetric fistula, prevention of this childbirth injury, and patient identification and treatment pathways
02
Repair Surgery
We collaborate with operating surgeons to organise operations campaigns - identifying, communicating with, registering, and caring for patients before and after surgery
03
Trauma and Reintegration
We understand that surgery can heal the physical wound of obstetric fistula, but counselling and care is required to help heal the emotional trauma that is also incurred. In Angola, most women live with incontinence caussed by obstetric fistula for an average of 12 years before having access to repair surgery. They must also process the loss of their child, as 95% of births that result in obstetric fistula also result in a stillborn child.
04
Community Development
This program is diverse and includes community-led initiatives such as the construction of children's playgrounds, organised sporting activities similar to Park Run, community cinema, art and poetry workshops and more.
